A size label is a starting point. The most useful reference is a T-shirt you already enjoy wearing. Lay it flat, take a few measurements, then compare them with the size chart on the exact product you want.
This matters at Afterglow because our tees use different garment styles. A fitted tee, a classic unisex tee and a relaxed garment-dyed tee will not necessarily sit the same way, even when the labels show the same size.
1. Start with a tee that fits the way you want
Choose a shirt you have already washed and worn. Lay it on a flat surface, smooth out wrinkles and leave the fabric unstretched. If you want a roomy fit, measure a roomy tee you already like rather than guessing how many sizes to go up.
2. Measure width and length
- Width: measure across the shirt just below the armholes, from one side to the other.
- Length: measure from the high point of the shoulder beside the neck to the bottom hem.
- Sleeves: if sleeve length matters to you, compare it using the same measurement points shown in the product chart.
Follow the chart’s own diagram if its measurement points differ. A flat garment width is not the same number as a full chest circumference. Check whether a chart describes garment measurements or body measurements before comparing.
3. Match the measurements, then choose the silhouette
Compare your reference shirt with the available sizes on the product page. Keep the units consistent: inches with inches or centimeters with centimeters. If you fall between sizes, decide whether you want more room through the body or a closer fit, and check how the length changes too.
For a closer silhouette, explore the Stay Groovy Fitted Tee. For a classic crew-neck shape, see the After Hours Motor Club Tee. For a relaxed garment-dyed option, look at the Afterglow Diner Tee. Compare each individual chart rather than carrying one size across all three.
4. Think about how you will wear it
If the tee will sit under an overshirt, check that the shoulders and sleeves have enough room without bunching. If you like a tucked-in tee, consider the body length. For a large back graphic, try your reference tee with the bottoms and layers you normally wear so you can judge the proportions.
5. Check the selected option before ordering
Confirm the size, color, price and product-specific care instructions. Fabric blends can differ by color, and availability can differ by design. Follow the care label after purchase; do not rely on washing or drying to turn an unsuitable size into the right fit.
Most Afterglow pieces are made to order. Review our final sale policy before purchasing. If a measurement is unclear or missing, contact us with the product name and the measurement you need before placing your order.
